Houston, TX, April 30, 2018 - ManhattanLife Assurance Company of America (MAC) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Workplace Voluntary Benefits (WVB) and Financial Protection Plan (FPP) lines of business from Humana Inc. These lines of business are primarily held under Humana’s wholly-owned subsidiary Kanawha Insurance Company Inc. (KIC). As Humana previously announced, the Company has entered into an agreement to sell its wholly-owned subsidiary, KMG America Corporation (KMG), including KMG subsidiary KIC, to Continental General Insurance Company (CGIC).

 

MAC has a diverse product portfolio including Life, Health, Annuities and Medicare Supplement products and this acquisition extends its worksite reach into the mid-to-large market space. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The WVB products are targeted toward mid-to-large market employer group and include Critical Illness, Accident, Whole Life, Level-Term Life, Disability, and Cancer policies.

No change during this period except that all pending commissions will be paid out as of close of business on June 29, 2018. ManhattanLife will continue to pay by EFT to your current account beginning July, 15, 2018 on a bi-weekly schedule.

Can I write new business?

Yes. We are open for business! All forms that sold before the hold, November 7, 2017, are now available – that includes CI, HI, Accident, Cancer, DI, and WL. ManhattanLife refiled most of the KIC products and they will be available to be written. The FPP product line will be a closed book.

How do I get licensed and appointed?

Your KIC appointment and contract is valid for enrollment activity through July 1, 2018. You will receive an electronic link for appointment with ManhattanLife. Contact your Client executive if you need assistance.

What products will you offer?

ManhattanLife refiled the KIC portfolio as ManhattanLife products, including the CI, HI, Accident, Cancer, DI, and Whole Life that you are familiar with.

How will the benefit administrators be notified?

We will send correspondence via email. Members of our client management team will then be calling them to answer any additional questions they have.

How will policy changes work?

Same as before during this period. Rights and obligations, under the policies remain the same. We will alert you to any updates of contact information.

Who will be handling any customer service issues?

The current WVB team will continue to assist customers.
